Aristotle said, “ Virtues are formed in man by his doing the actions.”
This was later coined into, ”We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit” (Will Durant).
This quote emphasizes the value of repetition. As we repeat a certain behavior, that quality becomes ingrained within us.
With that thought in mind, today’s activity is:
Share an act of kindness.
It doesn’t have to be big, dramatic, or costly. It just needs to be done!
- Hold a door open for someone.
- Deliver coffee to a friend and/or pay for the person in line behind you
- Smile at everyone you see today (
evenespecially if they don’t smile back!) - Put out your neighbors trash
- Share an extra pairs of gloves or blankets to a homeless shelter
- Compliment a stranger
- Let a person go in front of you in line
- Walk a neighbor’s dog
- Make someone’s favorite meal
- Leave your Aldi cart with the quarter in it
- Send a card in the mail
- Put money in a tip jar
- Ask the cashier about her day
- Drop by for an impromptu visit with someone
- Read a book to someone
- Pick up pieces of trash blowing in a parking lot
- Offer help someone struggling with a task
- Let the other person park in the open space
- Give someone flowers
- Help someone with their coat
It sounds simple because it is. Don’t over think it; just do it.
Then do it again.
And again. And again.
Challenge yourself to see how many acts of kindness you can accomplish today.
You won’t regret it!
See you tomorrow for our next challenge!
