Grab a pen and paper because we are going to write again today, but this time it’s for somebody else.
Who is someone you’ve never properly thanked?
There is great benefit in valuing people over things. Most readers will agree with that statement, and many of you probably hope to live your life accordingly; but actions speak louder than words.
What do you formally thank people for? For being them? Or for a gift they’ve given?
Thank you notes are a dying art, and often we send them only for physical gifts we receive. When was the last time you sent a note to a friend thanking her for being one? When did you last write a letter expressing gratitude for the influence a person has had on your life?
If it was only a short time ago, great! Write another.
If you can’t remember, let’s do it today!!
The recipient can be of this letter can be anyone — a sibling, a teacher/student (former or current), a friend — anyone! Maybe they are from your past; maybe they are in your life currently. Maybe you were very close; maybe you weren’t.
- Maybe it’s your hairdresser who makes you feel like a million bucks each time
- Maybe it’s a high school friend you’ve lost touch with
- Maybe it’s the mailman who waves and smiles each day
- Maybe it’s a Nia instructor who encourages you to express yourself
- Maybe it’s a Small Group personal trainer who pushes you
- Maybe it’s a piano teacher whose love of and passion for music inspires you
Who has helped you in some way, shape, or form;
and to whom you owe a debt of gratitude?
Write that person a note.
It doesn’t have to be long. Say thank you; tell them what for. Express why they made a difference, even if a small one, and why you still remember them today.
You may not have their address; you may not know how to contact them. Set that problem aside for now. Get your words on paper first. You’ll find a way to contact them. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
For now, get it on paper. It will help provide motivation and accountability to get it done!
