MOVEMENT + MUSIC = MAGIC
A recipe for success!
Many of the Nia principles are based on triads. Visualized as an equilateral triangle, it emphasizes the equal value of the different components.
At Body Moves, even as our name emphasizes, we advocate for movement (daily!), but we also recognize the importance of music.
You can read THIS POST to learn more about how music therapy systematically uses music to treat the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals.
Part of the Nia practice is focusing 100% on the music, both the sounds and the silences. This is call the art of listening.
The art of listening coupled with movement
makes for magic in Nia.
Mixed into that magic is the ability to speak and express oneself without words. Jennifer De Leon said, “Dance is a language beyond words, expressing that for which we have no words”; or more succinctly, “The body says what words cannot” (Martha Graham).
We invite you to experience this phenomenon with the Body Moves Tribe this coming Wednesday, October 30, from 5:30-7:00PM at our Nia Halloween Jam.
The unique styles of Body Moves Nia instructors Beth, Ama, Carrie, Naomi, Pat, and Deb will blend together through the 7 Cycles of an Nia class. Participants are welcome to get into the spirit of the holiday by wearing a costume but can also simply come as themselves! Tuition is $12 for this hour-and-a-half class. Any new-to-Body-Moves peeps are invited to attend FREE!
A special time of fellowship and community will follow. Participants are invited to bring one healthy snack to share and their own beverage if desired. Water will be provided.
