In December, when the sudden realization of the proximity of the end of the year hits, we are prone to reflection about the past year.
It is now the end of the first day of that new year, and it may serve you well to pause for a moment of reflection.
How did you intend to spend today?
And how did it go?
Did you drink your glass of water in the morning as you committed to doing in 2024?
Take a walk around the block?
Did you order containers to organize your photos?
Or set up a spreadsheet for finances?
In spite of the best of intentions, life sometimes turns out differently.
I’m guessing the Hawkeyes would have preferred a different outcome to their bowl game. Does that mean they failed? Maybe, but maybe not. They did play in a bowl game, after all, while other coaches and players only sat on a coach to watch games today.
Many men and women who are considered successful arrived there on a path earmarked by failures and setbacks. The difference that sets them apart from others is that they kept going.
Thomas Edison famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
Failure is going to happen, but then what? Do you hang up your helmet and never play football again? Or do you wake up tomorrow knowing that it is a new day with even greater potential because of what you have learned from yesterday!?
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.
The most certain way to succeed is always
to try just one more time.”
-Thomas Edison
Whether or not today went as you planned, tomorrow is a new day.
Take a few long breaths to let go of any frustrations or worries or stress.
Really, we’ll wait…
Ready?
Now, name three things for which you can be grateful for today. (Hint: it can be the post you’re reading or the studio that writes it!)
Next, reset or reaffirm your mindset for tomorrow…or even yet tonight!
It would be nice to say there’s only smooth sailing ahead, but we know better. Life doesn’t work that way. Hardship will happen. Disappointment will come. But you don’t have to stay there. Keep moving. And to help motivate you, let us join you on that journey.
